Hey guys,
I've gotta quick question. has anyone ever been in a situation where you went through training with a dog, and their trainer was in your class? How did they react? I have a shepard now, and she still is loyal to them. I thought she was getting better after a while with me playing with her, and us going out and stuf, but then we did massage class tonight and they were both close by, and I knew that was going to be a problem. i have nothing against these people, they're good trainers and nice people, but I should've been in a different class probably. My instructor says that once I get home things will get better and she'll concentrate more on me since they won't be there anymore. so I guess I'll have to try massaging her again when i get home or while we're alone and they're not around. Since she kept wanting to get up and tried to crawl away from me and in their direction I think. I knew those wines she was making wasn't because she was feeling good. But does anyone have any ideas of what to do when I get home? I know the wine she makes is a high to low pitched one, like singing going down the scale kind of. And it's loud to lol. but she's a good dog. i just want the last few days here to go well before I go home, then when i get home, hopefully it'll go well to. I already told my landlord that she's vocal so if she wines for other people to not get upset, since she's in a new place and all that. So she said she'd let people know. I just hope our bond can get better and she'll love me as much as she loves them. I think I know she will, it' just gonna take time and I'm not really use to it. My last dog and I bonded within 5 minutes, and it's been the same ever since. So if anyone has any ideas, please let me know of what to do, or how you're experiences were going home, since I haven't done it in a while.

the guy who trained Whitney was my instructor. It'll be fine. Don't worry. If you don't freak out about it, she probably won't either. I know I would tense up when Mike would come into the room, and as soon as I did, Whitney would go nuts. Now, don't get me wrong, she really liked Mike, but as she began to learn that I was boss, things changed. Actually, Mike would come over and sit with us at lunch just to get the dogs used to him being there but not giving them attention. Just my two cents worth

Yes, things will be different when you go home. Try to be as calm as possible when and if you see them again. She'll get passed it soon enough. I know it took Whitney maybe a week and a half to two weeks to settle down and get used to me. Just be patient and be consistent. t will all work out.

It took my dog a couple of days to get used to me, but he was cool after that and once you are at home it will be even better and your bond will grow stronger over time.

things will be fine. I see this a lot with the dogs coming through class. They get excited when they see there instructor's but as time goes they start to focus on you for that. Once home, things will be much different since you will be the only familiar thing in her changing world. smile

When I got my dog years ago, his trainer was my instructor, too. It was difficult for awhile, but as Larry paid less attention to Dusty, and I paid more, and of course Dusty's daily care transfered to me, I was the one commanding him, etc, his allegiance slowly shifted to me. Be patient, it will take time, but it will happen. Remember, those dogs had months with their trainer, only a few weeks with you. It's a fairly major adjustment for them. Just be patient, kind, yet firm so the dog knows your boss, and you'll be fine.

Yes, I understand all of this. I guess I'll find out when I get home what's gonna happen. i talked with the vice president of Seeing Eye and he had 4 shepherds and some other people have shepherds to, and said that they're the most wonderful dogs. I guess I'll have to find that out since we're still getting use to each other. She worked wonerfully for me today though. I guess it's just the whole transition from the first dog to the second. It's the hardest thing, but i know it'll get easier in time. i just can't wait to get home, and find out what lies ahead for the both of us. I'm kind of glad that I didn't train with my first instructor because she was getting married so I got switched to someone else, or else Vernon would've had a fit maybe. Since she trained him, I dunno how he would've acted, but he acted fine, and he was such a good boy. As for Chelsea, since both of her instructors are here in this class, it just makes it a little harder, but when she's not around them, she's better. So we'll see what lies ahead. But thank you all for the info. I really appreciate it.

going from dog 1 to dog 2 is always the hardest or so I am told. I haven't gotten to the point yet but all the retrains tell me that. hugs Things will get better. as I said, she is stil adapting to you. You are new and things are turned upside down in her world. She will learn more and more that you are pretty awesome and you will bond. The behavior she is displaying is normal.

Very true. I keep thinking about Whitney. It took her about two weeks or more to finally calm down. We were told to play with them, give them commands, and groom them to help out the bonding process. You will be fine. Give it time. When you're home with your dog, she won't even think about her trainers. Another thing that concerned me at first was when she met her puppy walkers again the day we graduated but Whit did awesome that day. I mean, she was curious about them, and I am pretty sure she remembered them, but she wasn't overly excited.
